Quiet District
In the alpha Location · facts checked 2 November 2026
The Quiet District is a slightly run-down neighbourhood at night, kept going by one keeper. Its subject is its road: an elevated, sheathed tract on piers that the player can repair stretch by stretch. It is also the gate to the Quiet Tracts expeditions.
Description#
The approved art is D09, keyed night-blue with pale cream sheaths, copper and amber lamps.
| x (px) | Element |
|---|---|
| 0–90 | THREADWAY sign and the west stair tower |
| 118–210 | The keeper's lodge, home of the precursor keeper |
| 209–267 | A repair record board: a small tract whose five segments fill |
| 262–482 | The Wrapping Depot: open bays with a winding wheel and spool shelves |
| 488–512 | A freight lift up to the catwalk |
| 530–700 | Spool yard and a drying line of sheath sheets |
| 700–800 | A quiet garden with a shade tree and a bench |
| 880–1020 | An embankment portal, TRACTS |
The five stretches. Between lit node collars, the road has five internodes. A damaged stretch shows a bare violet core with its own fault; a restored stretch is a cream sheath with spiral wrap marks. Restoring a stretch relights its lamps.
The shortcut. A catwalk runs along the crown. Until all five stretches are restored, its rail hangs torn and its gates show warm "closed" lamps. Then the gates open. The idea is that myelin makes the route fast.
Residents#
- Wick, an oligodendrocyte-lineage resident, is anchored near the depot in the alpha.
- Cress walks the street.
- Ambient oligodendrocytes stand along the upper walkway, a separate floor from the player's street.
Connections#
- West: back to Threadway. In the alpha you arrive here from Threadway's upper station deck, after riding the Pneumatic tube.
- East: press E at the portal to enter a Quiet Tracts encounter.
Development#
- Design: the v0.5 plan calls it "a historically unreliable route with five permanently repairable stretches". Its repair arc is optional and independent of the stress story.
- Art: D09 was approved on 30 October. D10 (31 October) redraws the garden tree's trunk and awaits review. Before/after state proposals (district light, repair stages) are on
claude/environment-art, not in a build. An older Codex depot study (Q01–Q08) is history. - Alpha: Placeholder
69c7b5470keeps the D09 background, connects the road physically and opens the Wrapping Depot and the Tracts gate. The repair scenery, the quick lane and the shortcut geometry are not connected. The lead lists them under "later side-story staging and environmental consequences". - Rule for later: the shortcut's collision opens only after five banked stretches (Codex to-do record).
