Workshop
In the alpha Service · facts checked 2 November 2026
The Workshop is a shop on the Threadway street. It makes things: one permanent tool you fit for every outing, and small pieces of field gear you carry in a satchel and use once.
How it works#
The Workshop is an open room in the street scene. Walk in and press E at the counter. When you walk inside, the camera tilts to 28° and the floors above fade so you can see.
- Tools: build a tool once and keep it. You fit one at a time, and refitting at the Workshop is free between outings. The three tools are the steady grip, quick hands and the reaching frame. Each is a sidegrade: the best tool depends on your class and region, and each one is worse than no tool somewhere.
- Field gear: buy one-use gear for a two-slot satchel.
| Gear | Cost | Effect in a turn-based room |
|---|---|---|
| Ward stake | 4 Supply | Plant it within 3 tiles; that one tile is warded for a round. Once this outing. |
| Survey ribbon | 2 Supply | Sweep 3 tiles round you for anything hidden. Once this outing. |
Unused gear stays in the satchel when you return, and you can return it for a full refund. The recovery parcel was removed; saves from services version 1 get a 4 Supply refund for any parcel still carried.
Numbers#
Prices are Claude B's design values for playtesting, not measurements. Tool numbers belong to the item pages.
In the brain#
The stake and ribbon are made things, not biology. The user moved them here from the Apothecary so that the Apothecary deals only in signalling.
Development#
- Design: Claude B's services catalog gives the Workshop "one verb": build and fit one permanent tool, and make one-use field gear.
- User decision, 1 November: field gear moved from the Apothecary to the Workshop.
- Art: the Workshop building in the P24 scene is a rebuilt model in the street's own colours. The workshop rebuilt for camera tilts was approved on 31 October.
- Lead work: the counter is reachable only on the same floor, so prompts never show through walls (2 November, uncommitted on
main). - Alpha: Placeholder
69c7b5470uses the real gear and tool rules with the shared ledger. The lead's release browser test makes an actual Workshop purchase. The upper Workshop landing is reachable; higher floors are not.
