Workshop tools are permanent equipment for the Ranger. You build each one once at the Workshop, and fit one at a time. Each is a sidegrade: the best tool depends on the class and the location.
The tools#
| Tool | Cost | Gives (turns) | Costs (turns) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steady grip | 6 Supply + 1 route marker | The first hit on you each room costs no Composure | Your Care is 10% weaker |
| Quick hands | 6 Supply + 1 signal seed | Your Care is 12% stronger | Reach −1 |
| Reaching frame | 8 Supply | Reach +1 | Movement −1 |
Numbers#
Claude B's pick-rate test (SIMULATION, 2 November, 51 rooms per class): tools changed the expert bot's result in more than half of the rooms. The top tolerant picks were Quick hands (Warden, 29%) and Reaching frame (Sentinel, 28%). Steady grip reached 38% for the Sentinel in the Gardens, which is allowed as location variety.
Development#
- 30 October (real time): Claude B's first tool set failed. A long tether and a cargo sling were strictly worse than no tool, and a costless steady grip was strictly better. The final three each lose somewhere.
- 2 November: the tools were re-expressed for turns (
TURN_TOOLS). - In the alpha: the Workshop counter builds and fits them, and the fitted tool goes into every run room.
